An estimated one in eight children in Wasatch County struggle with food insecurity. We believe this is a major problem in our community and we want to make a difference!
While most food bank donations include mac ‘n cheese or ramen, we want to provide something more nutritious.
The idea came from our volunteer work with the non-profit organization Generosity Feeds and with help of the Wasatch High School CAPS program, we put a plan in motion!
A recipe was developed, packaging created, and the first donations were received from friends and family.
Roonies Recognizes has since received generous donations from the community which allows us to make a continued impact.
Roonies Recognizes Rice & Beans Meal Packs contain black beans, white rice, and a vegetable seasoning mix. They are produced in our commercial kitchen which meets the Department of Agriculture standards for food production operations.
The meals are nutritious, easy for families to prepare, and are delicious. Each meal pack feeds three people and includes a nutrition statement on the bag. It is carefully sealed and stored for delivery to our partner organizations.
Volunteers meet to package the Rice & Bean Meals at our facility, and are provided food-safe attire including hairnets, gloves, and aprons. Specific instructions, including food safety guidelines and expectations, are provided and the event is overseen by our team. The meals are packaged in an assembly line process resulting in cases of pre-packaged meals. After cleanup, we all gather in the Roonies lobby and celebrate with ice cream!
Beans & Rice Meal packages are delivered to Wasatch County’s food banks and Wasatch School Districts’ food pantries. They are distributed to children via the “backpack program” overseen by the CCPC in Heber which serves over 400 children each week. They are also included in the CCPC’s Operation Hope’s food donation for children in our community.

Roonies Recognizes has received generous donations from the Wasatch Community Foundation, and a sizable grant from the Wasatch Health Department via the CCPC.
We accept tax-deductible donations through the Wasatch Community Foundation. The funds are allocated 100% toward the purchase of ingredients and supplies to make the meal bags – nothing else.
